This week I had the pleasure of attending a ‘gender reveal’ party in Ebbw Vale. Will the sex of the baby be a boy or a girl?! Proud new nanna-to-be Helen had booked me as a surprise for her beautiful expectant daughter. However, as Kayleigh and partner Gareth knew nothing about my arrival, it was a bit of a ‘cloak and dagger’ operation! A crowd of guests had arrived and were downstairs in Kaylegh & Gareth’s basement kitchen. I was therefore hiding upstairs in the lounge (having been let in by mum Helen!). At one point Kayleigh came upstairs to take a relative’s small daughter to the bathroom. Little does she realise, I ran upstairs with my camera bag and hid behind her bedroom door! Lol!
Helen has also booked me for baby’s newborn session. She was just waiting for everyone to arrive as wanted to present Kayleigh and Gareth wth my newborn photoshoot gift voucher. I then made my entrance to photograph the gender reveal. It’s a fabulous occasion and a privilage to be a part of something so special and emotional. Kayleigh had her scan result sealed in an envelope without knowing the sex of the baby. This was then handed to someone who arranged to fill a huge balloon with the correct colour ‘confetti’. This would reveal the sex of the baby when the balloon was popped.
Family and friends that had gathered in the kitchen were already wearing stickers having chosen ‘team boy’ or ‘team girl’! New dad-to-be Gareth was already wearing a ‘team boy’ sticker! No guessing what he was hoping for then! Even Kayleigh’s dad was wearing a blue ‘team boy’ t-shirt he had evidently had printed for the occasion. No pressure there then Kayleigh!
The time arrived to burst the balloon and reveal what they were expecting before the party kicked off! You seriously had to be there to feel the excitement, joy and sheer delight when that balloon went pop! As I snapped away, it took Gareth a second for the penny to drop that the confetti released was blue! The utter joy on his face is a picture to behold as you will see from the photos below. Two of Kayleigh’s brothers were unable to be present. One lives in Lincoln and the other in New Zealand, so both were watching events unfold on their mobiles! The wonders of modern technology eh?!
I wish these first-time new parents to-be every happiness over the next few months as they watch Kayleigh’s tummy expand! I can’t wait to meet their new baby son in the summer to photograph his newborn session.
