Last Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at The Exchange Hotel in Cardiff Bay. This amazing building constructed in the late 1880’s, re-opened as a hotel last year. Over a century ago, as Cardiff became the biggest coal port in the world, it was once the coal and shipping exchange. The grand hall was once the market floor for trading in coal in Cardiff! Improvements are still on-going but it’s lovely to see the building in use again.
I met bride Lena up in the bedroom busy getting ready with an army of her many bridesmaids. They had all stayed there the night before. As they were helping Lena into her dress, she was lacing up one of her bridesmaids dresses – teamwork! It was quite a sight with so many girls finishing hair, make up and changing into their beautiful dresses. Lena had six adult bridesmaids in long dusky pink dresses. She also had four younger flower girls in white dresses including Niamh, the daughter of her groom Mark. The groom himself was supported by his best man and six groomsmen/ushers in matching blue suits … very fetching!
The Wedding Ceremony:
The grand hall was transformed for their wedding ceremony with approximately 120 guests attending. Some had travelled quite some distance from Ireland and London for this lovely wedding. Mark’s dad gave a little reading prior to their humanist ceremony. It was a glorious afternoon and after the service, everyone spilled out into the sunshine for some photographs. There were lots of gorgeous children at this wedding who all looked adorable in their outfits! The lovely staff at the hotel worked hard to ensure everything ran smoothly. The grand hall was transformed for their wedding breakfast with speeches first so everyone could relax to enjoy their meals. As the afternoon progressed into evening, the band arrived and the dance floor was busy with everyone enjoying themselves. Lena & Mark were great fun along with close friends and family and up for a laugh with creating photographic memories.
I hope you will enjoy seeing a selection of Lena & Mark’s photos below and I wish them both every happiness:
