Wedding at Usk Castle

On Saturday 27th July, I had the pleasure of documenting the wedding of Julia and Simon at Usk Castle. Although both from Bristol, this lovely couple fell in love with Usk Castle as a wedding venue and decided it had to be! Julia stayed the night before with relatives at The Castle Inn down in the Square. She prepared for her Big Day there before Simon’s dad went to collect her in his lovely car. I was already up at The Castle with Simon, his best man and brother Matthew (like two peas in a pod!) and the other guests who had come together to celebrate this lovely day with them.

Fortunately the weather was glorious as some of the guests had camped the night before in the grounds of Usk Castle (they have camping facilities for this purpose). They are licensed to hold ceremonies in The Barn and then generally a big marquee is erected in the beautiful grounds in which to hold the reception. Julia arrived with her brother who was giving her away and her sister who was her Matron of Honour. Neices Georgie and Annie were the flower girls. Ruth and Charlotte were the two older bridesmaids. The girls looked beautiful in pale pink and ivory dresses with flower crowns in their hair. It was a lovely ceremony with Julia’s sister giving a reading and then Simon’s mum. Before we knew it, Julia and Simon were announced as husband and wife and we were back out into the glorious sunshine!

It was a perfect afternoon with everyone mingling in the beautiful grounds of The Castle and inside the stunning marquee. The busy caterers were cooking out in the fresh air before everyone was served with their meal. Later in the afternoon Simon gave a lovely speech which made his new bride cry! Julia’s mum then gave a speech and finally best man Matthew. I left them at this point to enjoy the rest of their evening’s entertainment but knew we had achieved some lovely photos in the time I was with them.

Julia and Simon … it was a fabulous wedding and I wish you both every happiness in the years to come. You must come back to Wales next year to celebrate your first anniversary! Sending you both a big Welsh cwtch 🙂
