On Saturday I was delighted to attend the wedding of Ben and Pippa at Usk Castle. This is one of my favourite local venues and I visit regulalrly. Although the bride and groom aren’t local, they are both involved in battle re-enactment activities. This helped them choose Usk Castle as the location for their Big Day. Since our previous meeting last year, they have brought beautiful baby Arthur into the world so he was Ben’s Best Man! It was a stunning day and we were blessed with glorious weather. I was able to access a part of the grounds I hadn’t seen before where people are able to camp. I loved the variety of quirky camping facilities provided. Many had stayed the night before and it was an incredibly relaxed atmosphere. This was a very non-traditional wedding as Ben and Pippa had already done ‘the legal bit’.
A large marquee had been set up in the grounds and was beautifully decorated with colourful bunting. Friends and family sat outside waiting patiently in this glorious outdoor setting. The views overlooking Usk from the Castle are stunning. Pippa’s mum had made her beautiful Regency-style dress and also the fab waistcoats that Ben and baby Arthur later changed into! Mum walked Pippa down to her waiting husband-to-be. Their very close friend Morgaine conducted the hand-fasting ceremony where both hands are tied with a big knot. Ben and Pippa read out really lovely vows to each other. They were then presented with gifts from a small selection of family members.
The Wedding Breakfast:
There were a fabulous mix of colourful, eclectic characters at this wedding and I loved some of the outfits. It was such a beautiful day, the marquee was opened up for the lovely buffet meal where guests could help themselves. Ben’s sister had made the beautiful wedding cake and a massive box of delicious Pippin doghnuts had been brought in delighting everyone (including me!) There were lots of lovely children at this wedding besides baby Arthur so I was in my elements! Everyone had such fun because it was so relaxing. Ben and Pippa had also grown little pots of herbs as wedding gifts for their guests to take home with them. As the afternoon went on, the Meet and Greek guys arrived to set up for the evening buffet of Greek food which was when I left the happy revellers to carry on celebrating well into the night.
I wish Ben and Pippa every happiness for their future life together with baby Arthur and hope you will enjoy seeing a small selecton of some of their wedding photos below:
